RAVENA James Earl Place Sr., 53, entered into rest peacefully at home after a brief illness. Born in Albany, February 10, 1950, he was employed by the NYS Department of Social Services. Jim, a veteran of the U.S. Navy stationed in Key West, Fla., was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid fan of the NY Mets. Survivors include his beloved wife of 33 years, Irene Wallace Place of Ravena; his mother, Eleanor Place of North Albany; his loving children, James Jr., Christopher and Kelly Place, all of Ravena; his cherished granddaughters, Abigail and Victoria; brothers, Richard and Kenneth Place; sisters, Susan Caiozzo and Eileen DesForge and Carol Parker; and many other relatives and friends. Jim was predeceased by his father, Earl Place. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Funeral services will be held 11:00, Friday morning, May 9, at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of James may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Community Hospice of Albany.
