Christopher Moore Obituary

MOORE Christopher Gavin Moore, 48, passed away on August 27, 2017 in Jacksonville Beach. His kind and generous heart stopped beating in the early morning hours. Gavin is survived by his parents, Suzanne McCormick Taylor (Robert) and Charles Newberry Moore, grandmother Jean Haden McCormick, brothers Travis Alexander Moore (Erica), Mark Allen Moore (Erin), and Rhyan Derring Taylor, nieces Alexandra Keller Moore, Taylor Julia Moore, and Ellis Jean Moore, two goddaughters, and his large loving family. Born June 30, 1969 in Cincinnati, Gavin attended Christ Church Preschool, Beaches Episcopal School, and The Episcopal School of Jacksonville, graduating in 1987. He earned his BS in Mathematics and Computer Science at Sewanee: The University of the South, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Returning to Jacksonville, his first job was designing and installing Apple computer labs in three Northeast Florida public school districts. After earning his MBA at the University of Florida, Gavin worked for Internet startup LookSmart in San Francisco, and Meridian Solar in Austin, where he helped guide the company through a period of expansion to become the leading solar contractor in the state. At the time of his death, he owned and operated San Pablo Realty in Atlantic Beach, as a licensed real estate broker. Gavin's legacy includes his innate ability to make and keep friends. He touched countless lives with endless smiles and laughter, a knack for telling good long stories, and a determination to stay in touch. He was an avid live music enthusiast who shared this love with friends. A committed community volunteer, Gavin's activities included playing Santa Claus at the Beaches Museum & History Park Christmas gathering, cooking for hundreds to raise money for charity, and responding to anyone needing a hand. Gavin enjoyed travel, participated in exchange programs in France and Italy, and loved scalloping and kayaking. Aside from his top priorities of family and friends, his lifelong passions were the Georgia Bulldogs and the family's circa 1873 homestead and ranch in Palm Valley. He grew up hunting and enjoying the outdoors with his family and late grandfather, J.T. McCormick. Gavin regularly hosted at the ranch: Thanksgiving gatherings, weekend afternoons of Georgia football, and feasts for large crowds. His brisket, pulled pork, turkey, and Minorcan-style pilau (perlow) and cheesecakes were legendary. Gavin's brilliant mind, wit, and expansive spirit left a positive impression on everyone he met. Services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017, at 11 am, Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl. 32082. A private family burial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Gavin's name to the Jean McCormick Founders' Fund of the Beaches Museum & History Park, 381 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, Fl 32250 or the Lead the Way Campaign to benefit the McCormick Sports Complex at Episcopal School of Jacksonville, 4455 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, Fl. 32207. Services are under the direction of HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach.

I have never met someone more wise or loving than Uncle G. I am so thankful for the endless memories with such a person. Missing his smile and voice more than ever. So happy for all the laughs and talks with him that took place.
We love you, G. Can't wait to see you again one day.

Gavin was the most friendly neighbor we have ever known. We will miss his friendly smile and conversations. Our thoughts are with his family.

How do you say goodbye to someone as special as Gavin? His loss brings such profound sadness to my soul. Gavin was one of those people who sprinkled sunshine wherever he went. Every single time I saw or spoke to him, he brought a smile to my face and brightened my day. We shared a love of music, and Gavin always let me know when my favorite bands were coming to town. He was truly an amazing human being and one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Gavin was gifted with an inner light and he radiated joy to those around him. Although I am saddened by the knowledge that I will never again see my friend and I will miss him terribly, his memory will always make me smile and fill me with warmth and the desire to pass on love and kindness to others the way Gavin always did. Rest in peace, my friend. I am so sorry that Hurricane Irma kept me from attending the memorial, but I was there in spirit. My love and condolences to all of Gavin's family. You are in my prayers.

My heart aches for your family. Gavin was such a sweet sweet person. His energy would light up a room. Gavin always made me smile. My husband and I enjoyed our long talks outside together as neighbors and Marley loved Gavin so much( Gavin was the only person my dog genuinely liked and would run up to greet him immediately, she never does that. Only to Gavin). Gavin will truly be missed, so sad to see such a great person gone to early. While we will miss seeing your smiling face every day I know we will see you again one day. Have fun in Heaven, I'm sure Chase was at Heavens gates waiting to greet you!
