Carter Allen
Dr. Anita Vernel Carter Allen, 78, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed September 30, 2019. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10 AM Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel. Interment at Restlawn Memorial Park. A viewing is scheduled Friday, October 11th from 5 pm to 7 pm at J. E. Fralin & Sons Funeral Home, 5065 Soutel Drive, 904-924-9400.
Dr. Carter Allen earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Jacksonville University and a Doctorate in Christian Psychology from Truth Bible College & Seminary. A beloved teacher, she retired from Duval County Public Schools in 1998 with 31 years of service.
She was passionate about God and her faith, education and believed in the value of empowering others - having served as Owner & Director of the W. T. Allen Christian Childcare Center and Founder of the Christian Girls Club Ministry, Inc. Dr. Carter Allen was dedicated to music and mentoring ministries at Ebenezer UMC, New Life UMC and King of Kings Christian Church. Additionally, she was a "Life Member" of the FAMU Alumni Association and a "Silver Member" of the NAACP.
Her husband, the love of her life, Willie Thomas Allen, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving daughter, Wilnita Allen Meadows; son-in-law, Kenyon Meadows; granddaughters, Camille and Gabrielle Meadows; brother, Kenneth Carter (Pam); sisters, Annie Pearl Meade and Connie Carter Cummings; a host of relatives, loved ones and friends.
