Bill Wimpee Obituary

WIMPEE On November 11, 2008, Bill Wimpee, born November 21, 1954 lost his battle with ALS after a courageous fight of one and a half years. Heaven is rejoicing because one of God's faithful children went home to be with his Lord. He was no doubt greeted by God's word of "well done my good and faithful servant." Undoubtedly Bill replied, "never had it so good." Bill was a Jacksonville native and graduated from Wolfson High School in 1972 and received an Associate in Arts from FJC (presently FCCJ) in December 1975. He was a faithful member of Arlington Baptist Church where he loved singing in the choir and thoroughly enjoyed his Sunday School class, Brother's in Christ. He worked at the Florida Baptist Convention for 32 years. He loved boating, skiing and spending time with family and friends. Although he is in a better place, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Verdie Wimpee. He is survived by his wife, Lily Wimpee; children, William and Melany Wimpee; father, Guy Frank (Betty Bell) Wimpee; brother, Frank (Janice) Wimpee; sister, Joan (Scott) McClelland; as well as four grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a multitude of very special friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday November 14, 2008 at Arlington Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Newton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The ALS Association Florida Chapter, 3242 Parkside Center Circle, Tampa, Florida 33619. OAKLAWN CEMETERY & FUNERAL HOME, 4801 San Jose Blvd. is serving the family. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com

I just saw this notice, 2025. Bill Wimpee´s family lived next-door when we were kids. They were a great family. I was thinking of them this morning... love to all of them. Joan and Frankie were my age. Bill was the baby...

Lily:
It was a great honor to have known you and Bill while working together at the convention. Bill's encouraging smile and words of wisdom were always appreciated. He is in a better place and I know you and the family will miss him. He had a real joy for life and whenever I watch a Mayberry (his favorite) re-run I will think of him.

Don't know anyone here, I was looking for a friends obituary and the horrifying letters ALS caught my eye. Just wanted to say God Bless you and all you went through with this horrid disease, I lost my mother to ALS in 2001.

Lily -

The Curran family would like to express their deepest sympathy for the loss of Bill. May the Lord comfort you and the family in this time of sad loss. Bill was a true man of God and the Heavens do rejoice in welcoming him home. Ann and myself remember the great times together in choir and how we looked forward to hearing Bill sing a solo on certain Sunday services. The angel choir is in great tune now. I remember Bill as a soft spoken Husband, Father, and especially a great Friend to everyone - he was truly a pleasure to be around. Bill and Lily were inseperable and the Love of the Lord always shown upon them. What a pleasure to be in the company of two wonderful people. We were sorry to hear of his illness and prayed for the Lord to do his will. May the Lord continue to Bless you with great memories of a dear and wonderful man. God Bless you all. We are praying for you, In Jesus mighty name.
