HILLYER Herbert Andrew "Drew" Hillyer, age 26, returned to his Heavenly Father on February 27th in Atlanta, GA. Drew fought a courageous 7 Ú year battle with complications resulting from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Drew was born in Bowling Green, KY, and grew up in Jacksonville, FL and Atlanta, GA, where he graduated from Walton High School in 2002 and was a freshman at Georgia State University prior to his illness. Drew is survived by his parents, Nancy and Kennard Avery Hillyer of Marietta, GA, and brothers Kennard Avery Hillyer, Jr. of Boston, MA and William Scott Hillyer, who is honorably serving our country in the US Army. Drew was the grandson of Herbert, and the late Norine Smith of Bowling Green, KY, and the late Dr. Charles and Emma Gray Hillyer of Jacksonville, FL. Drew came from a very large family of Hillyers and Smiths, including numerous loving aunts, uncles and cousins living all over the country and overseas. Drew's spirit touched the lives of many people during his short stay on this earth. His positive outlook on life gave hope and strength, to not only himself, but all those who were blessed to know him in this life. Drew was passionate about sharing his love for art and music; in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations honoring Drew be made to The Callanwolde Foundation, Inc. (an outreach program in Art Therapy for children in the Atlanta area hospitals) c/o Sam Goldman, Executive Director, 980 Briarcliff Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 or call 404-872-5338 ext. 229. A "Celebration of Life Service" will be held on Saturday, March 6th, 2:00 PM, Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, GA, 30328 (404) 255-8511. To the Hillyer family,
So sorry for your loss. Drew was a very courageous young man who had such a positive outlook. I know it's been quite the battle for many years. Drew is now free of pain and the suffering he endured. You all are in my prayers for comfort and strength. I know how much you will miss him.
