Dr. Richard S. Jason, DPM passed away February 17, 2021 from battling cancer with his family and close friends nearby. "Rick" was born May 7, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, and attended University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine (formerly Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine). As a Board Certified Podiatrist and Foot Surgeon, he practiced in the Jacksonville and Palatka, Florida areas for 50 years where he served the communities proudly and with respect.
Rick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife Helen, Scott (son), Stephanie, (daughter-in-law), Renee (step-daughter), Rich & Kay Skopin (in-laws), Tom & Sharon Hehn (in-laws) and a number of nieces and nephews. Affectionately he was "Pops" to his grandchildren Taylor (Trista), Brittany, Joshua and Grace whom he deeply loved and positively influenced. Throughout his life, he remained involved as a mentor and surrogate father to nieces and nephews; Greg Glenn, Cherie Huttman, John Glenn, Patrick MacLeod, Lori Williams, Heather Robb, John Manocheo and their families to name a few. His heart was huge! He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Genevieve, Evie Glenn (sister) and Truly (wife).
Dr. Rick Jason was a leader in many professional and personal organizations. He served on the Board of the former Jacksonville General Hospital and was a part of the resident training program in Podiatry at St. Vincent's Hospital. During his years coaching baseball with the American Legion Baseball League, fundraising for the Rick Wilkins Celebrity Golf Tournament and UNF, he reached many individuals with his humor, determination and passion for sports and those who played. As an avid private pilot, golfer and football fan, Rick was never without a "story" to share.
He will be missed and never forgotten.
A private family service will be held Saturday, February 27th with a memorial planned at a later date. Donations may be made to, whose mission is to give every child a chance to play baseball. Please visit the Tribute online at Arrangements by...
