Winona Wehle Unick Obituary
Winona Wehle Unick, 100, went home to Jesus December 26 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was predeceased (2001) by her husband of 59 years, Joseph G. Unick. They met and married during WW II when Mr. Unick served in the Army Air Corps. Mrs. Unick is survived by her daughters Beverly Thomes (Arthur Schultz) and Melanie Kessel (Mike); five loving grandchildren; and 14 loving great-grandchildren. She loved her family dearly and had a unique gift for making each one feel special.
Mrs. Unick graduated from the University of Miami ('40) where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and participated in many campus organizations. Her life-long passions included Sigma Kappa Alumnae, service to her church, knitting, Bridge, and many friendships. She enjoyed serving people in multiple volunteer positions including hospital and VA auxiliaries and the River City Women's Club. She loved life, and her sense of humor and enthusiastic, strong spirit will be missed by many.
Mrs. Unick will be interred with her husband in a private ceremony at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, January 19, at 11 a.m. at Mandarin United Methodist Church, with a reception following the service.
