William Daugherty Obituary

DAUGHERTY William J. Daugherty (Bill), age 81, died on September 1, 2014. He was born in Mayfield, KY on June 4, 1933, to the late William D. and Vera May Creason Daugherty. He has resided in Jacksonville, FL since 1949. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1951, served in the U. S. Army from 1953-1955 and attained the rank of Sergeant. He attended Jacksonville University. He retired after 35 years with St. Regis Paper Company / Champion International. Bill was a charter member of Forest Christian Church. He joined St. Mark's Lutheran Church in 1973, where he served on the church council, was Parish Host for a number of years, was involved in the church van ministry and Men in Mission. He was also the volunteer church photographer. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Cordelia Jane Daugherty, sisters Barbara D. Jonson and Beverly J. Wright, son William L. Daugherty, daughter Patricia Dianne Sutton (Michael), stepson David D. Grimsley, and predeceased by daughter Terease Lynne Daugherty. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11 :00 AM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 3976 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207. We are all very saddened by the recent passing of our dear beloved friend, Bill Daugherty, and thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends. Today, we honored the great legacy of a kind and gentle man who lived his faith in Jesus through compassion and service to others. He served his country, church, and community well and was passionate about music and photography. Thank you very much for your kindness, service, and friendship throughout the many years, Mr. Daugherty! You are dearly missed and will remain in our memories. God's peace and comfort to all.
