Joseph A. Barnisky
Joseph A. Barnisky, 76, of East Elm Street, Tamaqua, died Monday in Coaldale. He was the husband of Jo-Ann (Philipovic) Barnisky, to whom he was married 47 years.
Prior to retiring, he had been employed at the White Haven State School and Hospital for 35 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on active duty from 1958 to 1960.
Born in Coaldale, he was a son of Wanda (Kalis) Barnisky of Weatherly and the late Albert Barnisky.
Joseph was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, Tamaqua.
He graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1958 and attended Penn State University for two years.
A member of the East End Fire Company, Tamaqua, he was an avid hunter and avid fan of Tamaqua High School sports.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are a daughter, Jo-Lynn, wife of Kevan Valentine of Tamaqua; grandsons, Dylan and Lee Woods; stepgrandsons, Devan and Tanner Valentine; stepgreat-grandchild, Aiden Valentine; brothers, Al Barnisky and his wife, Linda, Michael Wester, and his wife, Carol, all of Tamaqua, Earl Wester, and his wife, Diane, in Vermont, and Daniel Wester of Miami, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
