Levio J. Grosso
Levio J. Grosso, 91, of White Bear, Summit Hill, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at St. Luke's Miners Campus Geriatric & Rehabilitation Center, Coaldale.
Born in Summit Hill on Nov. 15, 1926, he was a son of the late Angelo and Regina Grosso and was the beloved husband of Teresa M. (Sweigert) Grosso. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 10.
Levio was a graduate of the former Nesquehoning High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by Atlas Powder Company for more than 40 years.
He was a member of the Summit Hill American Legion Post 316. Levio was also one of the founding members of the Switchback Gravity Railroad Foundation, eventually becoming president of the foundation. He built the Switchback Railroad replica car on display at Mauch Chunk Lake Park.
He enjoyed spending time with his loving family, especially Sunday dinners when everyone gathered. As an avid outdoorsman from a young age, Levio enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a long time devoted bocce ball player along with the very special gentlemen who played along with him.
Levio was of the Roman Catholic faith and was a member of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley.
Surviving, along with his loving wife, are two daughters, Kathryn Tyson, and her husband Kevin, of Andreas, and Mary Ann Eickhoff, and her husband Leslie, of Summit Hill; two sons, Joseph Grosso, and Tamela Jenkins, of Summit Hill, and Christopher Grosso of Summit Hill; grandchildren, Kara Grosso of Summit Hill, Krista Kumor, and her husband Justin, of Kentucky, and Kaitlyn Mroczka, and her husband Tyler, of Barnesville; several nieces and nephews; also his puppy dog, Trixie.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianna Pasker; sister, Lena Grosso; and brothers, Mario Grosso and Joseph Grosso.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 13, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill. Military interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, White Bear, Summit Hill. Calling hours are Wednesday from 10-11:30 a.m. in the church. Summit Hill American Legion service at 11 a.m. Contributions, in Levio's memory, may be made to the church.
