Mary Helen Hydro
Mary Helen Hydro, 79, a lifelong resident Coaldale, died Thursday, July 21, 2016 in Coaldale. She was the wife of the late Edward Hydro, whom she was married to for 47 years at the time of his death on May 22, 2011. Born in Ashland on Dec. 11, 1936, Mary was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (nee Costello) Schilling. A 1954 graduate of the former St. Mary Catholic School, Coaldale, she also graduated from the Goldey Beacom Business School. Mary was the tax collector for the Borough of Coaldale for over 20 years.
A current member of The Parish of St. John XXIII, Tamaqua, she had been a member of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Coaldale until it closed.
Proud of her Irish heritage, Mary was an avid Notre Dame football fan and she loved to bake.
She is survived by sons, Edward Hydro of Hometown, Thomas Hydro and his wife Joan of Hudson, MA, and Stephen Hydro and his wife Susan of Holland, PA; daughter, Maura Streisel and her husband, Mark of Hometown; grandchildren, Natalie and Nicholas Hydro, Marie, Laura, Elizabeth and Thomas Hydro, and Mark, Elissa, Michael, Maria and Christine Streisel; brother, Thomas Schilling; sister, Kay Webb of Lake Hauto; and several nephews and nieces.
Mary was also predeceased by a son Michael who died in 1984.
Services: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26 in Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 307 Pine St., Tamaqua with the Rev. Martin Kern officiating. Interment, St. Mary Byzantine Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Call 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 25 and
9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale. Memorials in Mary's name may be made to Marian High School, 166 Marian Ave., Tamaqua, PA 18252. Arrangements by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremations Services, Inc., Tamaqua.
