Neda E. VanBuskirk, 99, of Lizard Creek Road, Andreas died on Sunday, June 10, 2018, in Coaldale.
Born on Aug. 7, 1918, in West Penn Township, she
was a daughter of the late Lewis and Alyce (nee Kershner) Moyer.
Neda was the wife of Ralph VanBuskirk.
She graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1936 and earned a bachelor's degree from the Kutztown State Teachers College in 1938.
Neda began her teaching career in West Penn Township schools, teaching first to eighth grades in the one-room schools of the township, rotating to different schools every two years. She finished her teaching career at the West Penn Elementary School where she taught second grade after the consolidation with Tamaqua School District.
Neda was proud of a certificate she received from the Pennsylvania governor recognizing her 35 years of teaching.
She was a member of Christ Evangelical Free Church, Mahoning Township.
Neda and her first husband, Charles W. Neifert, ran the Neifert Trucking business in Andreas and after his death she was a part of VanBuskirk Trucking operated by her second husband Ralph.
In addition to her husband Ralph, Neda is survived by daughters, Donna Roberts and her husband James of Pittsburgh and Cindy Miller and her husband Todd of West Penn Township; grandchildren, Dr. Kelly Ann Roberts and her husband Scott Clous, Tarynn Mecir and her husband Michael, Lauren Miller, Tyler Miller and his wife Alyssa, and Morgan Miller; and great-grandchildren, Leo and Peter Clous, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles W. Neifert in 1955; a grandson, James M. Roberts, Jr.; brothers, Clayton Moyer and Lewis Moyer; and sisters, Katherine Kern, Stella Hettinger, and Ruth Leiby.
Services: A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 15 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua followed by interment in Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown. Call 9-11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Lukes VNA Hospice, 801 Ostrum Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
