Mrs. Phyllis K. Brown
Mrs. Phyllis K. Brown, 79, of Mahoning Heights, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, in the St. Luke's Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. She was the widow of Edward W. Brown, who died on May 15, 2013. They had been married for 49 years.
She retired in December, 2000, after working as a secretary for 18 years in the main office of the high school of Lehighton Area School District.
Previously, she was a clerk for the Lehighton Blue Ridge Cable TV office from 1974-1982 and was employed by the Lehighton Branch of the Hazleton National Bank from 1957-1974.
Born in Weissport, she was a daughter of the late Kermit M. and Miriam (Hontz) Kershner.
She was a 1957 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and was a member of the reunion committee.
She was a volunteer for the Lehighton Meals on Wheels from 2001-2008; was a bowler for 49 years at Cypress Lanes, Lehighton; participated in the Carbon County Senior Games from 2002-2008, winning 42 medals for the Lehighton Team; and was a former member of the Civil War Roundtable of Eastern Pennsylvania.
Two of her great-
grandfathers, Henry Musselman and Josiah Hontz, served in the Union Army during the Civil War.
Phyllis and Ed enjoyed touring Civil War battlefields, where her ancestors participated, and their favorite vacation trip was to Alaska, which they visited twice.
Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Gene E. and Merella Kershner of Weissport; a nephew, Micah John Kershner; and cousins.
Service: Memorial service will be held and announced. Schaeffer Funeral Home, Lehighton, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Lehighton Memorial Library, 124 North St., Lehighton, PA 18235, or to the Carbon Co.
