Julia E. Knies, 89, of 326 E. Abbott St., Lansford, entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 10, 2012, in her residence. She was the wife of Michael J. Knies. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 10.
Born in Pierce, W. Va., but raised in Nesquehoning, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Gusaak) Sims.
She was employed as a sewing machine operator for the former Kiddie Kloes factory in Lansford and the Panther Valley Shoe Factory.
She was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford.
Surviving along with her husband is a son Michael, and his wife Jennie, of Scranton; a daughter Betty Lesher, of Little Egg Harbor, N.J.; two grandsons, Jon Lesher and William Knies.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Grazul and Anna Runte.
Service: A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. in St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, with Father K.A. Medve officiating. Interment will be held in St. Michael's Cemetery, Summit Hill. The family will receive friends Wednesday 10:30 a.m. until time of services in the church. Donations in her name may be made to Diakon Hospice Saint John/Diakon Home Health, 1201B N. Church St., Hazle Township, PA 18202; or to the church. The Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, Nesquehoning, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Dear Michael and Betty Ann,
I am sorry that I could not be there as I am out of the country. Please know that your families are in my prayers.
I will miss your mom very much. She was the glue that held our families together with her laughter and generosity.
