Thomas A. Sr.

Thomas A. Ball Sr., 50, of Sylvania passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday January 16, 2013, at Toledo Hospital. He was born October 15, 1962, to Thomas Bernard and Irene (Miller) Ball in Toledo, Ohio where he resided most of his life. Thomas attended Start High School, and found his niche working in restaurant management. He enjoyed a long career working for Bennett Enterprises, most recently managing their Ralphie's restaurant in Sylvania. He was a fine cook and always lent a hand in the kitchen at family get-togethers. "Tab" or "Michael-Tom" as he was lovingly referred to by family, was an avid sports fan and attended sporting events in his spare time. He especially loved the Buckeyes, Bengals, and Reds. Tab also enjoyed golfing with his siblings, and going to hockey games with his son and grandsons.

Preceding him in death was his father. He is survived by his mother, Irene Ball; son, Thomas (Jessica) Ball, Jr.; brothers, Scott (Sandy) Ball, Greg (Laila) Ball; sister and best friend, Leara (Casey Wyckoff) Anbar; grandchildren, Carson, Cohen, and one more on the way; nieces and nephews, Christopher (Anna), Audrey, Amanda, Samira, Joseph, Jenine, Jarod, Jacob; and great-nieces, Mya and Kaylani.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Dowling Funeral Home, 7509 New West Road at King Road, (King Rd. between Central and Sylvania Ave.) Toledo, 419-841-8111. The family only asks for your prayers at this time, but memorial contributions can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice. I had the pleasure of meeting Tom when I worked at Friday's. He was a great person, and I agree, had a great smile. Hard working, honest, and just a great guy. There were a few people that I had missed after I left, Tom was one of them. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. His family will be in my thoughts.

As a child my parents,sister and I would go to the Ball house. the adults would play cards and all of us kids would play upstairs. Tab was the life of the evening.

I regret that I will not be able to attend Saturday. But here is what I would share if I could be there...
A very sad news day for me. (and thank you Steve for calling me)...When I heard the first memory that popped into my head was all the guys (at TGI FRIDAYS) 'riding' the bus on the cook line. Bill White, Big John, Mike Irvin, Kerrie, Tim Sullivan and Tim Tilley. I will focus on that and all the great times we had together back in the day. Tom Ball, heaven got a good guy yesterday. Rest in Peace, my friend.

I worked with Tom at TGIFriday's in the late 80s. Four things I will never forget about him: His killer smile, how he was always calm and in control when all heck was breaking loose, how he busted his butt and maintained his standards at all times, but what I remember most was how Tom just positively beamed EVERY time he spoke of his son.
To Tom's family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I pray that your memories will keep him alive forever in your hearts.
