Gretchen Eve (Kanavel) Grady Obituary
Gretchen Eve (Kanavel) Grady

On Saturday, January 5, 2019, Gretchen Eve (Kanavel) Grady, passed away after a hard-fought battle with Cancer at the age of 53.

Gretchen was born on January 28, 1965 at Elmendorf AFB, AK to Walter and Barbara (Waters) Kanavel and became a United States Air Force Brat. At the tender age of 4 months she moved with her family to Florida, Texas, New York, Japan, Germany, Maryland and Michigan. Her love for travel would continue with her going to college in Alaska where she received her Journalism degree from the University of Alaska, in Anchorage, in 1995. On June 7, 1995, she married the love of her life, SSgt Michael S. Grady.

Gretchen had a tremendous Life Force like no other and was an amazingly kind, caring, and committed woman. Together, Gretchen and Michael had a love for each other that was all encompassing, strong and true. Everyone who had the opportunity to spend even a short time with them and get to know them personally, could see the unique, deep love connection that they shared with each other and many commented that their relationship was one to be emulated.Gretchen loved to bird watch behind her house and would always welcome dragonflies when they'd come to call. She also loved music. She met Michael in a Jazz club while in Anchorage, Alaska and from that day forward, they were inseparable from the very first day they met. She was known for her quick wit, her infectious laugh, and her kind and compassionate spirit. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Gretchen was preceded in death by her sister Beth. She is survived by her husband Michael; her mother Barbara; her father Walter; sister Katrina; brother Miguel; four nieces Kristen, Janice, Michelle and Catherine; and several grand nieces; a grandnephew and many cousins.

Gretchen was a former graduate of Bedford High School, Temperance, Michigan 1983

It was Gretchen's wish that there be no funeral services and instead of donations or flowers, she asked that, just from time to time, people take a quiet reflective moment to remember a special time that they had with her while she was still here with us.
