Marshall N.

Marshall N. Isenberg, 85, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Friday, May 9, 2014.

Marshall was a longtime Democrat and former member of the Lucas County Democratic executive and central committees, a ward chairman, Sylvania Township zoning board member, and recipient of the 2009 John P. Kelly Democrat of the Year award. He graduated from the University of Toledo College of Business Administration in 1949. He began a career in public service as an investigator/auditor for the City of Toledo Tax Division, which at that time was in its infancy. From 1965-1972, Marshall served as an Ohio state parole officer in the Toledo district. In 1973, Marshall became the chief supervisor of Toledo's department of taxation. Retiring in 1981 after 31 years of public service, Marshall then embarked on a full-time career in real estate, becoming a licensed broker and appraiser.

He was a former president of the Toledo chapter of the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers. Marshall was a 50 year plus member of the Collingwood Masonic Lodge 457, Ft. Meigs Chapter F and AM, Scottish Rite 32nd degree, Zenobia Shrine, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He was president and trustee of the Toledo Hebrew Cemetery Association/Eagle Point Cemetery, Rossford, Ohio, founded by his maternal grandfather, Michael Jacobson, in 1865. Marshall has also been an active board member of the Toledo Animal Shelter. He enjoyed eating, cooking, going out to dinner, traveling, dabbling in the stock market, and kibitzing with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Catherine H. Noble; sons, Michael and Dennis Isenberg and their mother, Sandy Isenberg; daughter, Amy Noble Isenberg; son-in-law, Robert Opie and grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Max and Maris Isenberg and Jonathan Opie.

Services will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue (west of Corey Rd.) on Monday, May 12, at 11 a.m. The family suggests memorials be made to the Toledo Hebrew Cemetery Association, c/o Eagle Point Cemetery, 6505 Sylvania Ave., #7, Sylvania, OH 43560 or the Toledo Animal Shelter, 640 Wyman, Toledo, OH 43609. Marshall and I shared similar views as a member of the Toledo Animal Shelter board. I will miss his sense of humor and his matter of factness. It will be a tough chair to fill and I will miss my friend.

Sorry to hear of Marshall's passing. He taught me a lot in the short time I worked with him as the Sheriff's office appraiser. He was made sure I learned how to do a job that was new to our office and earned my utmost respect. Marshall will be missed very much as he had so much to share in such little time I had to work with him.
