Zoellen Harrington Murphy

Zoellen Harrington Murphy, born in Toledo on February 14, 1960 to Donald and Loleta Harrington, died January 24, 2021. Her parents survive. She also is survived by her husband, Charles Murphy; children, Cassie (Scott) Braithwaite, Price Murphy and Sydney (Ryan) Shircliff; as well as five beautiful grandchildren; and her, sister, Tara (Nirakar) Thakur and their family.

Employed by The University of Toledo COM & Life Sciences since 1994, she most recently spent the last 19 years in the Department of Psychiatry. Zoellen and her husband Charlie were very active in numerous Masonic related organizations. In addition, she was active in the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, The University of Toledo University College Alumni Affiliate and Eastminster Presbyterian Church. In keeping with her wishes her body has been donated to research in order to help others.

Her hope was not that her loss is mourned, but rather that it serves as an important reminder to everyone that they should live each day to the fullest, and treat others as if they'll never see them again. That makes each and every encounter a blessed one.

There will be a Memorial service at Eastminster Presbyterian Church at a later date, in keeping with COVID-19 regulations.

To all of Zoe’s family,

Although it’s been years, I remember Zoe as a very “genuine” person. She was sweet and caring, and also possessed a deep inner strength.

She could light up a room by being outrageously funny, and could sooth the mood with her wonderful singing.

She was truly a beautiful soul, and everyone whom she touched came away at least a bit better off.

I doubt any of our humble words will ease your current pain, but please know you are all in our thoughts.

So sorry to here of Zoe's passing. One of my favorite people at AADPRT meetings. She was always a breath of fresh air - so full of life and so warm and welcoming! Meetings won't be the same without her.

I knew Zoe through the department of Psychiatry - we shared not only the work, but many funny situations; she had a wonderful sense or humor. We could share a laugh and then get back to work. What everyone remembers about Zoe was her selflessness and concerns for others both at the workplace and outside of it. Rest in peace Zoe.

Zoe, always brightened my day. She was kind, generous, thoughtful and funny. She boosted my spirits after a hard day and she had anything you ever needed in her desk in case of an emergency. She was one of a kind and she is sorely missed. One of the finest people I have ever known. Anyone who met her loved her. My deepest sympathy to Charlie and all her children and family.

My heart goes out to Zoe's family and friends. I knew Zoe since she starting with AADPRT in 2003. The world lost a shining star. She always had a smile on her face (one I could not forget), a kind word to say about others, and a deep faith. I value all the presentations she gave as she always gave humor to our group. It is like her to ask others to love and be kind to each other and also to donate her body to science. What a giving soul she was. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Zoe's passing. I had the privilege of working along side Zoe for many years. We shared our life together and there were many stories and lots of laughter. She was a devoted wife to Charlie as well as a wonderful mother, grandmother and daughter. She was always giving advice and suggestions even when unsolicited. Ha ha! I remember when I had cancer she would depart every night from work and walk over and give me a kiss on top of my head. The memories are many. She has a special place in my heart. May God bless her family as they mourn their loss.

Charlie and family,

May God grant you His peace that passes understanding as you grieve the passing of Zoe. Zoe and I worked together for years in the Department of Psychiatry and I remember her devotion to the residents she served, her eagerness to assist the faculty, and her friendliness with the staff. Also, her singing voice was like an Angel to ones ears. Zoe will be remembered by many. Thanks for sharing her.
