Virginia Griffis Obituary

GRIFFIS

Virginia Lee

Virginia Lee Griffis, 86, of Maumee, Ohio and formerly of Richmond, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 3, 2015, at the Elizabeth Scott Community. Virginia was born in Centerville, IN on June 10, 1928, to Eugene Lee and Iva Sarah Outland. A graduate of Centerville High School, Virginia went on to attain a degree in Sacred Music from Earlham College. She served as the organist at First English Lutheran Church in Richmond, where she was a member, and also worked as a librarian at Morrison-Reeves Library in Richmond.

Virginia devoted her life as a homemaker to the care and upbringing of her family. Virginia's great love and talents as a musician were a big part of her life and she returned to work sharing those gifts. She volunteered for many organizations, including The Boys Club of Richmond, Study Buddy program, Meals On Wheels and was also a choir member in Richmond and at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo, OH where she belonged once moving to the Toledo area. She was also a member of the Soul Ladies in Toledo. She and her husband, J. Brandon Griffis, lived a loving active life together and shared that life with a special group of friends. The friends from Supper Club and Bridge Club were like a second family that were always there and that continued on even after Brandon's passing.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children, Elaine (Rob) Ludeman, Jim (Cindy) Griffis, Sarah (Jim) Colias and Amy (Armand Leonetti) Griffis; grandchildren, Pete (Suzanne) Ludeman, Mary (John) Mikesell, Adam (Leandra) Griffis, Rachel, Hannah and Bill Colias, Max and Sam Leonetti, Renee (John) Wickett and John (Tressa) Wallace; great-grandchildren, Ridley, Lennox and Vivienne Ludeman, Brianna and Maggie Mikesell and Austin and Rachel Sparks.

Pastor John Walker will preside over a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at noon in the First English Lutheran Church, 2727 E. Main St., Richmond, IN, where a private entombment will take place. A second Memorial Service in Toledo will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1825 Glendale Ave. with Pastor Jim Wicker officiating. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider one of the churches or The Elizabeth Scott Community, 2720 Albon Rd., Maumee, Ohio 43537. Arrangements by The Walter Funeral Home, 419-382-1700.

Jim and family, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother. She was such a sweet person and I remember she made the 8 AM church service very special. I hope you will find comfort in the wonderful memories each of you have of your Mom.
