Thomas Wunder Obituary

Passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2021, at St. Mary's Hospital in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Gloria (nee Benninger) Wunder for 58 years. Dear father of Leslie Slabon (Karol), Christopher Wunder (Dana), Lianne Horne (Mike), Laura Wunder-Meier (Paul), and Stephanie Scheifele (Scott). Proud grandpa to Thomas, Karolina, Meaghan, Claire, Elise, Riley, George, Jacob, Sarah and Joseph. Tom will be missed and remembered by his sister Mary Cardillo, his sister-in-law Carol Wunder, and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents George and Doris (nee Cooper), his two brothers Robert and James, and brother-in-law Dominic Cardillo. Tom's greatest accomplishment was his love and devotion to his family. He didn't need fancy things or world travels to make him happy, all he needed was his family crowded around the kitchen table or crammed into a cottage at the beach. He devoted his life's work to helping others. He was a celebrated member of the community for his work as a credit/debt counselor for over 30 years at Catholic Family Counseling Centre, later known as Carizon Family and Community Services. For decades, he devoted his spare time to scouting, as a Scout Leader and Camp Master and spent innumerable weekends at Everton Scout Camp. He was an active member of St. Agnes Church and lived his life in service to the Lord. Tom's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, July 16, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021, at St. Agnes R.C. Church, 75 Bluevale Drive, Waterloo. Fr. Aleks Mazur officiating. Interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. Masks are mandatory to attend the visitation or the Funeral Mass. Please also respect the family's wishes to maintain social distancing. Please R.S.V.P on the funeral home website to attend the visitation or funeral or call the funeral home 519-749-8467 to register. Friends and family may join the family for the Funeral Mass via live-stream at www.henrywalser.com/live-streaming starting at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday with a video tribute and followed by the Mass at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada.

Just back from vacation and learned of Tom's passing. Please accept my sincere condolences. He was a most caring man. I have known Tom for many years from his work with Catholic Social Services where I had dealings with him over mutual clients during my finance days. More recently, I have been a fellow 'counter' with him at St. Agnes Church. May he rest in peace.

Jim and I wish to send our heartfelt condolences to all of Tom's family.
For many years, he was my dad's best friend (George O'Neill).
We especially loved hearing the stories about their adventures at Everton Scout Camp. He was a truly wonderful person.
