Edwin J. Winkler

Edwin J. Winkler, 85, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 19, 2016, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ. Born in Thornwood, NY, Mr. Winkler resided in Armonk, NY until he was drafted into the Army in 1951. He proudly served during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed in Alaska. After his service, he settled in Hamilton and started his business, Trenton Diesel Inc., where he worked for over 40 years. Mr. Winkler was the Past President of the Hamilton Twp Lions Club, a member of the Central Jersey Tractor Puller Associates and a member of the Wheel Horse Collectors Club. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. Predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Olga (Stange) Winkler; his brothers, Edward and Fred Winkler and his sister, Frieda Winkler; he is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Claire S. (Steinert) Winkler; his son, Edwin Winkler Jr. and wife Cynthia; his daughter, Elaine Van Noord and husband Richard; his grandchildren, Christina, Brian, Elise and Elizabeth, as well as several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call on Friday, February 26, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square NJ 08690. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, 1800 Hamilton Ave, Hamilton NJ 08619. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Winkler's memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
