Amelia Whetstone-Gibson Obituary
Amelia Whetstone-Gibson was born on January 8, 1935 in Orangeburg County, SC. She was born to the late Willie B. Whetstone & Annie C. Whetstone. Amelia departed this earth peacefully in her home. Amelia was educated in Orangeburg, SC school system and she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Claflin College in Orangeburg, SC. Amelia later went on to receive her Master’s Degree from Trenton State College. Amelia became an Educator in the Trenton school system. She worked in the Trenton Board of Education for 27 years after which time she retired. She also gave 27 years of her time to Trenton Psychiatric Hospital where she held the position of Human Services Technician. As a child she attended Mount Zion Methodist Church in Jameson, SC. After leaving South Carolina Amelia became an active member of St. Paul’s AME Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, a willing worker, nurses unit, and a member of the National Association of Nurses for AME Zion Church. Until Amelia was called home, she was a faithful member of Resurrected Life Evangelistic Church. Amelia is preceded in death by her parents Willie B. Whetstone & Annie C. Whetstone, former husband Glenwood Gibson Sr., her sisters Lucille Henderson, Willamae Holman, Janet Oliver. Brothers George Sr. & Jasper Sr. Whetstone, and Matthew Carmichael. Amelia’s sister ThelmaGlover, received her heavenly wings on the same day. Amelia is survived by her children Glendalyn Gibson, Jacqueline Croston (Kevin), Janedtte Gibson, Tonzantte Gibson-Brooks (Nathaniel), and her only son Glenwood Gibson Jr. (Denise), and Kimberly Brittingham (Ronald). Siblings Booker Whetstone (Loretta), Andrew Whetstone, Jane Jenkins (Benjamin), Leroy Whetstone (Ethel). Grandchildren Jeffrey Johnson, Miaca Smith (Barry), Nathanial McNair, Camelia Gibson, Lateef Gibson, Jamar Parkman (Destiny), Darryl Parkman, Shatilah Perry (Martin), McKinley Brooks (Deliece), Raymond Gunnell (Ciara), Kevin Croston II. Seventeen great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews dear to her heart. Funeral service will be 12pm Friday, January 12, 2018 at Resurrected Life Evangelistic Church, 182 Anderson Ave., Morrisville, PA. Calling hours will be 10am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home.
