Debbie Shagg Obituary
Debbie Shagg, 60, died Friday December 29, 2017 at the Arcadia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Princeton NJ, she lived in Pennington NJ for many years. Predeceased by her father, John C. Shagg, she is survived by her mother, Jeanne Shagg, sister Barbara Shagg-Walter, brother-in-law Thomas C. Walter, Aunt Barbara Smith and cousins Laurie Burgess and Bill Billeck and Peter, Nancy, Delaney and Ethan Smith. Kelley Sullivan was a dear friend for many years. After nursery school at the Mercer ARC, she attended classes at Princeton, Pennington and Ewing Public Schools. Camp New Jersey Jaycee was employment and fun. She found volunteering at the Pennington Library rewarding. The staff of WomanSpace Supportive Living Programs in Trenton and Hamilton enabled her to live more independently. Her years with them were wonderful. Working at the Wildflowers Restaurant taught her social and work skills. Debbie loved life and had many friends. New acquaintances were assumed to be friends. She enjoyed socials at the ARC, weekends in the Poconos, trips to Atlantic City, travels to Europe with her mother and attending Jazzercise conventions. Family gatherings were highlights of her calendar. Music was a big part of her life. Rock or oldies- she was dancing to the beat. Crafts were another pastime—all family members and many friends received hand- made potholders and suncatchers. It took a village to make life good for Debbie and she made the best of it. The family thanks the staff of Arcadia Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for years of thoughtful care. Embracing Hospice offered extra special help when it was needed. Debbie liked to be helpful. She would be proud to know she was remembered now. Contributions in her memory may be made to HomeFront, 1880 Princeton Avenue, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Arrangements are under the direction of Riverside Memorial Chapels, Ewing and are private.
