Surrounded by her loving family, Mary Jane Augustin, 86 was taken home to be with God on Monday, April 12, 2021. Born and raised in Downingtown, PA, Mary Jane was a resident of Morrisville for the past 58 years. She was a founding member of Saint John the Evangelist Parish and faithful servant of the Lord. Mary Jane was the loving wife of the late Joseph Augustin, the beloved mother of Tom and his wife Maureen, Michael and his wife Mary and cherished grandmother of Thomas and Katie, Addison and Hailey. She was the devoted sister of Joseph and Willie Bird of Downingtown. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families, and will be greatly missed by many friends and neighbors, most especially the Napolitano family. After graduation from West Chester State Teacher College in 1956, Mary Jane began her teaching career at Delhaas High School in Bristol Township, PA. After she met and married the love of her life, Joe, she moved to New York and taught at Wantagh High School in Long Island, New York. She then moved to Morrisville, PA with Joe to be closer to her family. She was hired at Villa Victoria Academy to co-teach alongside of her best friend Ginnie Napolitano. While at Villa Victoria, she and Ginnie started the Sports Nite program under the watchful eye of Sister Lillian! Mary Jane taught health and physical education at Hamilton High West in NJ. While at Hamilton, she coached 9th grade basketball and the Girls Varsity soccer team. Her soccer team was Co-State Champions in 1979 and was rated #1 in the state of NJ! Mary Jane amassed over 100 wins while coaching and in 2004 she was elected to the Hamilton High West Hall of Fame for her achievements as a coach and teacher. Throughout her teaching career she touched many students' lives. As a founding member of the Delaware Valley Board of Women Officials, she officiated both high school and Division 1 field hockey and basketball. During the summer she was a "mother" to many children as the coordinator for Pennsbury Summer Recreation at Fallsington Elementary School.. In December of 2015, Mary Jane and her husband Joe were honored by Villa Victoria Academy for their benevolent, humanitarian service. Their names were placed on the Villa Victoria Wall of Fame. Mary Jane retired and started a new career as a doting grandmother to Thomas and two years later to Katie! She enjoyed spending time at her vacation homes. When in the Pocono Mountains, her family and extended family enjoyed many happy times; in Florida she relaxed and played golf in the sunshine with her longtime friends, the "Tea and Krumpet" gang. An avid golfer, Mary Jane loved to play with her dear friends, especially Barb Sedia. As an avid fan, she also spent many days cheering for all things Notre Dame! GO IRISH! Throughout her life, Mary Jane loved her golden retrievers, especially Michael's dog, Murphy. Murphy tagged along with her on her many trips to watch Thomas' and Katie's activities. Mary Jane (and Joe) was such a good neighbor. She talked me into roller blading with her at Macclesfield Park many years ago. She was a ball of energy. My sympathies to the family. You must have wonderful memories to keep you smiling.

“Birdie” and I were friends for very many years. We spent many laughable moments together in school on the basketball court and in the band. She was the the May Queen at St Joseph’s Church. A great friend. Fortunately, I was included in her wedding party. In passing, she left our life only to be with her beloved Joe. May she rest in peace. Theresa (Sciarretta) Gospodarek

IT WAS BETWEEN MRS. AUGUSTIN AND MRS SZEKER WHO BECAME MY FAVORITE TEACHER AT HAMILTON HIGH WEST. I POKE TO THEM BOTH DAILY AND THEY GAVE ME THE BEST ADVICE AS BOTH A STUDENT AS WELL AS BEING A GOOD CITIZEN TO MY COMMUNITY. EVEN AFTER GRADUATION WHEN TIME HAD PERMITTED ME I USED TO COME VISIT THEM BOTH ON THE SPORTS FIELD TO CATCH UP ON CURRENT EVENTS AND TALK ABOUT THE PASS. THE LAST TIME I SPOKE TO MRS. AUGUSTIN WAS WHEN I WAS INDUCTED INTO THE HHW HALL OF FAME AND AGAIN WE CHATTED IT UP AND EVEN TOOK A PICTURE TOGETHER. EVEN THOUGH I HAVENT SEEN HER IN YEARS I'M GOING TO MISS HER AND TO HER FAMILY I OFFER YOU MY HEARTFELT PRAYERS AND TO MRS.AUGUSTIN MAY YOU REST IN POWER.

Birdie,
Such a wonderful person to work with and be around. Enjoyed working all the years at Hamilton West with her. As well as enjoying family time with the Augustine’s in the Poconos. She is truly a special person. Will always remember the fun times with her.!!

Birdie was one of a kind. It was a great pleasure to work with her at Hamilton West, and I don’t think I ever saw her without a smile and kind words for everyone. I really don’t think there was anyone that didn’t love her. I know she will be great missed by family and friends. Remember all the happy times with her and she will live on in those memories.
