Shelby J. Patty Obituary
Shelby Jean Patty, 78, of Murrysville, succumbed Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, after a prolonged fight with cancer at home and is now with peace. She was born Dec. 15, 1937, to the late Margaret Bennett Ament Patty and Ralph Carl Patty Sr., at home in Murrysville with Dr. Orbin Hall attending. She was a valedictorian graduate of Franklin High School in 1955 and a summa cum laud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a chemistry pre-med major. In 1959, she completed a master's degree in chemistry and also attended Pitt Medical School for one year. She eventually became disillusioned with medicine and shifted course completing a master's degree in education and taught in the field for five years or so, when she quit to live on the family farm with her parents and brother, where she worked with her horses and beloved flock of Toulouse geese. It was always her wish to write books about her animals but her manuscripts were lost when the family farmhouse burned. She is survived by a sister, Lona Jane (Clarence) Skena, and a brother, Ralph Carl Patty Jr., both of Murrysville; cousins, LaRue Patty (Rocky) Kindleberger, of Export, Marion Heaven, of Murrysville, Patricia Ament Denton and Marilyn Ament Yawn. She is also survived by a niece, Charlotte Skena (Tom) Stockdale, and a nephew, Jeffery Ward Skena.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at the HART FUNERAL HOME INC., Murrysville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Hedden officiating. Interment will follow in Murrysville Cemetery.
