James August Stivanson, 74, of Penn Hills, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015. He was the son of the late Russell L. and Laura Gay Wise Stivanson; husband of Janet Lillich Stivanson; father of Jonathan Allan Stivanson and Jennifer Stivanson Wyatt (Dr. William Wyatt), of Texas; and stepgrandfather of Christopher Wyatt, Bronwyn Wyatt Higgins and Tony Higgins. Jay was an oboist, choral director and music educator in the Penn Hills, Swissvale and Woodland Hills school districts. He was the first director of the East Winds Symphonic Band, a Boy Scout leader, a ham radio operator and instructor, and a computer expert. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at South Avenue United Methodist Church in Wilkinsburg. Memorial gifts may be made to South Avenue United Methodist Church.
