Joan Mae Bishop, 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, after a long illness. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Bishop; and many nieces and nephews, including Joyce Scott, Belinda Boehme and Robert Bishop, all residing in California. She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and North Sheridan Bishop; a brother, Robert; sister, Marian (Glenn) Eichar; nephews, Russel and David Eichar; and niece, Jayne (David) Collings. She'll be missed by her friends, Evelyn Bold and Thelma Fuller, who have looked after her for eight years, and by Mary Pat Whilhem, also a good friend. Joan graduated with a master's degree in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and enjoyed a long career in leadership roles. An active member of Carnegie Methodist Church, she was extraordinarily generous and kind, supporting the church and many charities. Joan had a special rapport with children and loved animals, especially cats. Many thanks to those at New Hope Personal Care home and at Canterbury Place who worked hard on Joan's behalf. Also, thanks to Debra Cale who has sometimes assisted Joan, and who has done so with great kindness.

Dear Joan- We love you so much you were our shining star. We will always remember your visits with Grandma B it was a long drive from Pittsburgh to San Diego. I picked a winner when I married your brother I got his family too! Bob always called you My Joan, but to Joyce,Bob,and Belinda you were their very special Aunt Joanie. Your last years were very hard on you but your friends, Evelyn and Thelma were always there for you, words cant express how grateful we are for all their loving kindness and care they gave you.
