Mary McCain Obituary
Mary Louise "Mrs. Jack" McCain, 88, White Oak, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at home. Born March 19, 1922, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thompson Chew (Charlotte Mary Kline). She was a graduate of California State Teachers College (now California University) where she was president of Kappa Delta Phi and Pi Gamma Mu. She was also a member of College Players and the Nature Club. She taught for 37 years in West Mifflin Schools, Versailles Township (now White Oak) and McKeesport Schools. Mary Lou was a past worthy matron of White Oak Chapter 542, Order of the Eastern Star; past president of the White Oak Junior Women's Club; past regent of the Queen Aliquippa Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and a present member of the Braddock Trail DAR; past state chaplain of the Pennsylvania State Society DAR; chaplain of the Past Regents Club of the Southwestern Society of the PA DAR; past president of the Lanquedoc Chapter of the Huguenot Society of Pennsylvania; past president of the McKeesport College Club; member of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century; member of the Ancient and Honorable Field Artillery; member of the McKeesport Hospital Juniors Committee; member of the McKeesport Area Retired School Personnel; life member of the YMCA; and member of the Altrusa Club of McKeesport. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of White Oak and its Missionary Society. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Alan McCain Sr.; her brother, Colonel Allen Frank Chew, at the United States Air Force Academy of Colorado; and two half brothers, Joseph Thompson Chew II and Chester Forrest Chew, Ph.D., of Arizona; She was the mother of Jack Alan (Diana) McCain Jr., of Durham, Conn., and Janet Lee (James) Gerber, of White Oak; grandmother of Heather (Peter) Fox-Sutek, of Elizabeth Township, Daniel Garrett Fox II, of Liberty Borough, Jack Alan McCain III, of Pittsburgh, Bethany, Katherine and Larissa Gerber, of White Oak; and great-grandmother to Dakota Fox, Gregory and Camden Sutek, Payton Haubrich, Garrett Fox and Jax Stewart. Services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church of White Oak, 1229 Prescott St., White Oak, PA 15131. Burial in Sewickley Union Cemetery.
