llen played Uncle Woody, the husband of Aunt Esther on the popular sitcom “Sanford and Son.” He was Ned the Wino on “Good Times” and had a recurring role as mechanic Merle the Earl on the 1970s TV detective series “Starsky and Hutch.” He retired from acting in 1985 but continued to make public appearances to meet his fans.

We knew him As Ned The Wino and Uncle Woodrow from Sanford And Son, but you had the pleasure to know him as Uncle, Grandpa, Cousin, Daddy and Friend. I know that the later chapter of his life was much more interested and that's the part of Mr. Allen that the public never knew, and I bet We would have loved to be have been apart of. Stay Blessed and take comfort in the memories that you have of the Man he was.

Hey Uncle Woodrow! You played the best wino I've ever seen. You know this was an act because you lived to be 91 years old. Sanford and Son was my favorite show and you and Aunt Esther were a big part of the comedy. May you bring a smile and make people laugh on the other side. Rest in Paradise
