Paul V. Fischer Jr. Whitehall Paul V. Fischer Jr., 87, of Whitehall, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012. He was the husband of the late Edith L. Fischer; beloved father, father-in-law and grandfather. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, he graduated from Carrick High School with the class of 1943 and joined the Army, serving in Europe in World War II. Upon his return, he worked for Carrick Hardware before joining Bell of Pennsylvania for 35 years. He met his wife through the Photography Club and began a hobby that led him to photographing weddings and winning awards for his pictures of the City of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and past post commander of American Legion Post No. 725. He also served as the president of the local chapter of Telephone Pioneers. He was an active member of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. Much of his life was dedicated to service to others through a wide range of activities with the Pioneers, Meals on Wheels, Lifeline, the American Legion and work with the hearing and visually impaired. He also brought much joy to adults and children as "Fleas the Clown." His lifelong love of traveling and camping lead to many lasting friendships in the Fort Pitt Campers. Paul was the son of the late Paul V. Sr. and Nettie M. (Schneider). He is survived by his children, Paul V. Fischer III and Katherine (Allen) Black; and three grandchildren, Peter, Allen and Katherine Caroline "KC" Black. He is also survived by four cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME INC., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, PA 15227, 412-881-4100.
