Charles A. Hart Obituary
Charles Arthur Hart, 84, a former and longtime resident of Indiana Township, passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2018. Charley, as he was known affectionately, was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Pittsburgh, in the midst of the Great Depression. The son of the late Charles Patrick Hart and Agnes Abernethy Hart, Charley is survived by his cherished wife of 51 years, Dora Hall Hart; as well as two adoring daughters, Sarah Lynn Hart (Rocco Bovalino), of South Fayette Township and Karen Hart Fedder (Mardon Fedder), of Lebanon, Pa. Charley was also the beloved "Papa" of two grandchildren, Megan Hart Fedder and Rocco Charles Bovalino. Charley is also survived by a dear cousin, Frances Folino (Anthony Folino), of Greensburg. Upon graduation from Dormont High School in 1951, Charley secured employment as a lineman with Bell Telephone Co. While working, he put himself through night school at the University of Pittsburgh, earning a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1968. After purchasing a plot of wooded land in Indiana Township, he built his own home where he grew his family. Throughout his life, Charley served his community in a variety of roles: Indiana Township supervisor, president of the Fox Chapel Area School Board, president of the Dorseyville Volunteer Fire Department, elder at East Union Presbyterian Church, Indiana Township, Republican Committee chairman, Bradley Center board member, volunteer EMT and fire policeman, deputy Pennsylvania State constable, and member of the Indiana Township Historical Society. Charley's altruistic nature and desire to foster the good in the world permeated every aspect of his life. He was master of the spontaneous kind gesture and never failed to seize an opportunity to help others. An advocate for the disadvantaged, Charley was a fierce champion of high quality public education.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Dorseyville. A luncheon will follow immediately at the Indiana Township Municipal Complex.
Online condolences may be shared at KREAMER FUNERAL HOME of Annville, Pa. (https://www.kreamerfuneralhome.com). In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that donations be made directly to "Indiana Township," designated in honor of Charles A. Hart. Since Charley spent much of his time investing in his community, his family hopes to pay tribute to his efforts with a contribution toward enhancements to the Veteran's Memorial in the township he loved.
