Ida Geary Obituary

Ida Jean Geary, 81, of Irwin, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008. She was born Oct. 5, 1926, in Pittsburgh, to the late Wesley Berlin and Ella Martz Geary, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph W. "Bud" Geary; and a nephew, Wesley Geary. She was a retired advertising designer for George Hill Co., Pittsburgh, and a graduate of Norwin High School Class of 1942 and of Wilson College. A member of Alcoma Golf Club since 1950, she was women's champ 13 times, was the former newsletter editor and had served on numerous committees including the first female member of the WPGA Executive Committee. She was a member of Smithsonian Institute and the Western Pennsylvania Audubon Society. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Marjorie Carroll Geary, of New Stanton; nephew, Stephen Geary, of Greensburg; nieces, Susan Smith, of Greensburg, and Carroll Wagus, of Cary, Ill.; also great-nieces and -nephews. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Dr. Ronald Wakeman officiating. Private interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
