Joseph S. LaMantia Obituary
Joseph Salvatore LaMantia, 95, of Bolivar, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at The Bethlen Home. He was born Oct. 28, 1923, in Bolivar, the son of late Anthony and Josephine (Marfisi) LaMantia He was also preceded in death by siblings, Paul LaMantia, Mary (LaMantia) Machak, Anthony, Vince, Philip and John LaMantia. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Lou (Treasure) LaMantia; children, Marc A. (Mary Garland) LaMantia, of Bolivar, Joel W. (Beverly Penrose) LaMantia, of Brush Valley; and Karen A. (Ed) Ashcom, of Pleasant Mount; grandchildren, Melissa (Jesse) Keller, of Bolivar; Matthew LaMantia, of New Florence, Andrea (Eric) Dixon, of Vintondale, Jared (Diana Rummery) LaMantia, of Austin, Texas, and Tony (Megan Dodge) Walbeck, of Roaring Brook Township; great-grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Keller, Sophia and Dominic LaMantia, Jakob and Erika Dixon, Lincoln LaMantia and Quinn and Elle Walbeck; sisters and brother, Netta (Gerald) Cunningham, of New Florence, Dominick (Gloria) LaMantia, of Bolivar, and Josie Graham, of California; sister-in-law, Fran LaMantia, of Seward; and numerous and loving nieces and nephews. Joseph was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Seward, and was one of the founding members who helped to build the former St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bolivar, where he was an usher and very active in various activities. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as M.P. He was a self-employed truck driver who owned and operated his own truck for many years, delivering for the Garfield Refectories, National Freight and McQuade Trucking. Joe enjoyed spending time tinkering in his garage and traveling to the beach. He took great joy in his great-grandchildren, who enjoyed all the activities at Bethlen Home. He was a very loving father and doting husband to his wife.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at KENNETH A. STUART FUNERAL HOME, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence, where Veteran Honors will be held at 3:45 p.m. and vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 425 Bridge St., Seward, with the Rev. Robert Washko officiating. Interment will be in S.S. Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.
