Sylvia Laverne Orbin, 97, of Youngwood, passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. She was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Everson, the daughter of the late Walter and Madeline (Smith) Lind. She was a member of Christ Untied Methodist Church in Youngwood, also in the Senior Citizens group, a member of Dames of Mata, the Rebekah Lodge, the White Shrine of Jerusalem and a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star. Laverne also enjoyed crafts, knitting and reading. She is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, the Rev. John Reffner; her second husband, Kenneth Orbin; her son, Robert Reffner; stepson, Dennis Orbin; sister, Geraldine MacFarlane; and her brother, Walter (Jim) Lind. She was also preceded in death by her special niece, Annette Yuhouse. Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, in Christ United Methodist Church, 100 Lincoln St., Youngwood. Services will be held at 11 a.m. in the church. A limited number of people will be permitted in the church at one time. Masks must be worn and social distance must be maintained. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. Arrangements are by the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., 101 S. Fourth St., Youngwood. The family would like to thank Excela Westmoreland Hospital and Excela Hospice for their care and compassion. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Christ United Methodist Church. What a sweet wonderful lady. Always looked forward to seeing her in church. She never forgot to send us an anniversary card. Sympathies to the entire family. Rest in peace Laverne.

She was Aunt Laverne to me, what a sweet lady she was. She always had a smile. I remember seeing her in church every Sunday.
I am Marian and Nat Raygors daughter, my grandfather was George Orbin, brother to Ken.

Oh what a joy it always was, conversing with Mrs. Orbin: Stories of celebrating “both” of her birthdates; her upbeat personality just lifted one’s spirits. A life well-lived good and faithful servant. With sympathy to her loved ones; she certainly did love you.
