Lawrence R. Heltebran Obituary
Lawrence Reed "Larry" Heltebran, 79, of Smithton, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Country Care Manor in Fayette City, surrounded by his family. He was born March 26, 1939, in Smithton, son of the late John David and Grace V. Newlin Heltebran. He was a graduate of South Huntingdon High School, class of 1957. He was a member of Hilltop United Methodist Church in Madison. Being raised on the family farm, he helped with more than 1,000 chickens, baled hay and herded many beef cattle, sheep and hogs. He was known as his grandpap Newlin's shadow. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike as a truck driver on the maintenance crew. He was a member of the Masons, the Rostraver-West Newton Ambulance Service, as well as serving on the Smithton Borough Council for many years. Larry loved planting flowers, gardening and most of all woodworking. He was preceded in death by both parents and survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Karen A. Burkhart Heltebran, of Smithton; one son, Scott Heltebran, of Wyano; two daughters, Nancy Murtland and husband Mark, of Greensburg, and Janet Fracola, of Herminie; one brother; David (Lee) Heltebran and wife Elizabeth, of West Newton; one sister, Linda Tompkins and husband Wade, of Adamsburg; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three step-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison. Services will be held at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, with Chaplain Donna Schmoyer officiating. Interment will be private.
