George P. Sabol, 69, of Export, Murrysville, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at his home. He was born Oct. 17, 1939, in Clairton, a son of the late Michael Francis and Mary Hospodar Sabol. Dr. Sabol retired from Westinghouse Electric Company in 1997 after 30 years of service to the Commercial Nuclear Fuel and Science and Technology Divisions. He receive a Ph.D in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science in 1967 from the Carnegie Mellon University. His research focused on zirconium alloys used in commercial power reactors. George was the major contributor to the development and qualification for commercial use of the PWR-Alloy ZIRLO, which is now used extensively for cladding and structural components by Westinghouse. He was a member of Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville, and was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Sabol. George is survived by his wife, Maryann Roszkowski Sabol; four children, George (Jeannie) Sabol, of Westerville, Ohio, Kathryn Sabol, of Columbus, Ohio, Stephen (Diane) Sabol, of Venetia, and Jennifer Sabol, of Export; nine grandchildren, Daniel, Emily, Matthew, Nicholas, Laura, Joseph, David, John and Michael; and a great-grandson, Aiden. No visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Friday in the Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville, with Father Bryan Summers as celebrant.
