Alan Rockwell Obituary

Alan Ray Rockwell Sr., 78, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, June 27, 2016, in Akron City Hospital, Akron, Ohio. He was born on July 29, 1937, in Uniontown, and was a life-long resident of the Uniontown area. During the final 26 months of his life on earth, his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Ren, and their children cared for him in their home in Stow, Ohio. He was a son of the late Avis Verna Walls and Clarence Beckner Rockwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant child in 1969; and an infant sister, Marjorie Rockwell, in 1930. Alan graduated from Uniontown High School with the class of 1955, and attended Waynesburg College for two years. He was raised in the Uniontown Free Methodist Church and later in life he worshipped with the Uniontown C.&M.A. and Abundant Life Churches. He was an Airman 1st Class in the 112th Fighter Squadron of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. He married Lavina Lois Nelson on Sept. 19, 1964, in Winchester, Va. He was a travelling salesman for more than 50 years. He and he wife founded several local businesses including Fayette Mobile Homes & Bethesda Christian Store. He is survived by his wife of 51 years who is left to cherish Alan's memory together with; sons, Alan Ray "Chip" Rockwell Jr., of North Union Township, and Eric Nelson Rockwell and his wife, Ren Lynne McCoy, of Stow, Ohio; a brother, Norman Armstrong Rockwell and his wife, Ruby L. Collins, of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Ian Christopher Rockwell, Nicole Ren and her husband, Corrin Alexander Clayton, Erin Michelle Rockwell and Natalie Ann Rockwell; one great-grandchild, Lucas Arthur Clayton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, where family and friends will be received from noon until 2 and 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2016. Viewing will continue in the funeral home from 11 a.m. until noon Monday, July 4, 2016, followed by a service celebrating Alan's life at noon with the Rev. Ken VanSickle assisted by Cerwin R. High and Doris J. High, Directors of Transport For Christ. Burial will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Dunbar Township.
