Verna L. Rupert, 66, of Greensburg, formerly of Vandergrift, passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side, Tuesday, May 14, 2019, in Passavant Group Home, Greensburg. Born April 7, 1953, in Natrona Heights, she was the daughter of the late Howard E. and Lucy (Vernacotola) Rupert. Verna lived in Vandergrift for the majority of her life, before moving to Passavant Group Home in Greensburg. She was employed at ARC of Westmoreland County, retiring in 2017. She was a longtime member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church in Vandergrift, and felt close to and protected by God. She always had deep, abiding faith, and she sang like the angels. Besides singing, Verna enjoyed music, dancing, and spending time with her nieces, nephews and extended family. She was a huge Beatles fan, loved Elvis and Betty Boop, appreciated the wonder of the Lord's world, and her favorite color was blue. Verna enriched all of her family's lives, leaving them all much better people for having had her in their lives. Her strength, deep kindness and grace in living rose above all of her challenges. All who knew Verna felt the presence of her sweet and kind soul. She is survived by her loving family: sister, Maria (Jeff) Badac; brothers, Dennis (Rosemary) and Larry (Ellen) Rupert; five nephews, Joel (Robyn), David (Laura), Zachary (Shannon), Seth and Brett; three nieces, Cassandra (Matthew), Cara (Benjamin) and Krista (Steven); seven great-nephews; four great-nieces; her cherished cousin, Judy, with whom she shared a very special bond; many extended family members; her beloved life partner, Ron DeWalt; and housemates, Sandy and Brenda. Verna's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Farmbrook Group Home, who provided excellent care, and became her second family.
