Dennis Ray "Denny" Battaglia, 72, of Greensburg, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born July 10, 1948, in Westmoreland County, to the late Albert Joseph and Theresa (Fordyce) Battaglia. Denny was a graduate of Franklin Regional School District, Murrysville. Prior to retiring, he was employed by Operating Engineers Local 66 as a heavy equipment operator. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Italian-American Club, Export, and the American Legion. Denny loved his family, his in-laws and wonderful friends. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Maureen (Joyce) Battaglia; daughters, Ruth Budris (Nick), of Fairfield, Maine, and Tracy Battaglia (Eric), of Delmont; brother, James Battaglia (Debbie), of Export; sisters-in-law, Judy and Leah; and several nieces and nephews. He was the very proud grandfather of Vanessa Shimer and Belle Paulone; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, James Karcher; and brothers, Albert Battaglia and Gerald Battaglia. Due to the pandemic, there will be no viewing. VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177, has been entrusted with the arrangements. "Many thanks to the staff at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital for their professional, caring treatment. The critical care doctors and nurses were so kind." In lieu of flowers, Denny's family suggests monetary donations be made to C.O.R.E., Center for Organ Recovery and Education.
