George W. Trew 90, of Cabot, passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, Butler County Memorial Hospital. George resided in various locations throughout his life most recently Cabot, Lower Burrell and Ford City. He was born July 30, 1930, in Masontown. He was the son of Cecil Ostrich and William T. Trew. He is survived by his wife, Grace E. Trew. George was a graduate of Masontown High School, Fayette County. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Lower Burrell. George retired after 33 years with the Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District Locks and Dams. He retired in 1987 as lock equipment mechanic foreman and diver. While employed with the Corps, he received a meritorious award for rescuing a swimmer. He was also awarded several sustaining performance and sustaining superior performance awards while at the Corps. He also worked as a dock clerk for the former Hills department store and as a custodian for Bon Aire Elementary School, Lower Burrell. He was affiliated with Boy Scout Troop No. 676, Ford City, where he was assistant district commissioner for Moraine Trails Council. He also served as a merit badge counselor. George served in the Navy for four years aboard the USS Missouri, USS Roanoke and USS Worchester. He is a Korean War veteran. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 60, Brownsville. George was a former Little League baseball coach and enjoyed attending sporting events such as baseball, football and basketball games, especially those involving his son and grandson. In addition to his wife, George is survived by his son, George W. Trew II and his wife, Pia; his daughter, Cynthia L.T. Lambing and her husband, Robert; his grandson, Benjamin M. Trew and his wife, Suzanne; his step-grandchildren Jacqueline, Edward, Matthew, Kerry, Dean, Dawn and Paul; and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Charlotte. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Burke Petro and Genevieve Jarzynka; nephews, Mark, Eric, Kenny, Ronnie and Buzzy; nieces, Kay and Frances; and step-grandson, Kevin. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, at RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068, at Alder St. where funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at a time to be announced. Masks and covid-19 guidelines are required. Burial with military honors by the Navy will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
