Gertrude (Gruden) Nycz, 93, of West Deer Township, died Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at St. Clair Hospital with her daughter by her side. She was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Renton, to the late Frank and Theresa (Vadnal) Gruden. Gert lived in West Deer most of her life, graduating from West Deer High School in 1945. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish in Russellton and was a member of the church choir and the Ladies of Charity. She was also a member of the SNPJ in Acmetonia. Gert worked as a lab tech for Golf Research for over 12 years, though she really enjoyed being a homemaker, which she took great pride in. She loved Polka dancing, sewing and loved her family and grandchildren. For everyone who knew Gertrude, we all know she loved everyone, helped everyone and had a smiling face and helpful hand for all who needed help. Survivors include her daughter, Laurie (William) Page, of Upper St. Clair; grandchildren, Christopher (Holly) Brody, of West Deer, Shayne Brody, of West Deer and Kyle Page, of Chicago, Ill.; great-granddaughter, Lacey Brody; and her brothers, Frank Gruden, of Springdale, and Robert (Mary Ann) Gruden, of Dallas, Texas. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Nycz, Nov. 4, 1997; and her daughter, Leslie Brody, June 12, 2012. We will be following CDC Guidelines and do ask that you wear a mask, social distance and make your visit brief. The family will receive friends Friday, April 9, 2021, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township, where parting prayers will be conducted with the funeral Mass to follow in Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, Transfiguration Church, Russellton, with the Rev. James P. Holland, officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar. View obituary online and leave condolences at

Gertrude was genuine and loyal. Her “it’s Mary Here” imitations attest to that truth of how she treated her fellow man. Her and her husband welcomed people of all races and ethnicity into their home for food and drink without prejudice or judgement. The treatment of animals was also to be admired. Never worn were leather coats or leather shoes or leather purses and hunting was not permitted in any form. Even the car seats had to be made of cloth. Grilling of animal meat at picnics was also off limits. What a world, what a world ... everyone should live their truth and sing with the angelic choir voice of a true angel!!!!

Gertrude was so sweet. I was her Meals on Wheels delivery guy and she was ALWAYS so nice and greeted me with a smile.

Rest peacefully, dear Gertrude.

All the best,
