Lois A. Callen Nelson, 97, formerly of Fawn Township, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, at Quality Life Services at Fair Winds in Winfield Township. She was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Duluth, Minn., a daughter of the late Nels and Ann (Maas) Nelson. Lois lived most of her life in Fawn Township and the past six years at Fair Winds. She was a secretary for Local 12 Glassworks Union in Creighton for 21 years and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy WAVES as a Yeoman 2C. She also was a member of Pleasant Unity United Presbyterian Church, Fawn Township, where she was a former treasurer, played guitar and sang in the choir. Lois enjoyed typing, reading, crocheting and Norwegian Hardanger embroidery. Survivors include her children, Janice (Albert) Porter Jr., of South Buffalo Township, and Dr. Douglas (Ginny) Callen, of North Buffalo Township; grandchildren, David Porter, Eric (Ariel) Callen, Susan (John) Levi, Scott (Fran) Porter, Jennifer Jack, Jeffrey (Kelly) Porter and Karen Porter; great-grandchildren, Madison, Alex, Logan, Jonetta, Zachary, Justin, Ben, Donovan, Collin, Samuel, Matthew, Joshua, Logan and Brennen; one great-great-grandson, Zayden; and her sister, Eileen Nelson, in Duluth Minn. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbur M. "Wib" Callen; her second husband, Fred Nelson; one brother, Robert Nelson; and two sisters, Grace Bartash and Dorothy Peterson.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 to 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum, PA 15084, 724-224-1526, where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Terry L. Mann, officiating. Private interment will be in Pleasant Unity Cemetery.
