Raymond Jefferson Sr. Obituary
Raymond Jefferson Sr., 91, of Arnold, passed away peacefully Monday, June 6, 2016. He was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Massies Mill, Va., to the late Danridge and Catherine Johnson Jefferson, and was a New Kensington resident for many years. Mr. Jefferson worked on the railroad but was a coal miner most of his life, working in the Barking, Oakmont and Harmar Mines until 1971 when he became an inspector for the Bureau of Mines. He retired from the Bureau in 1990. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of New Kensington. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Ruth Ann Diggs; children, Raymond (Jacqueline) Jefferson Jr., of Solon, Ohio, Roxann (Terriell) Davis, of Arnold, and Roulette (Minister Sylvester) Price, of Pittsburgh; five grandsons, Gerald, Jonathon, Ramar, Reginald and Anthony; five great-grandchildren, Malique, Genevieve, Zaire, Jaden and Isaiah; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, Alfred and Eugene Jefferson.
Viewing will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 1150 Asa W. Roberts Way (formerly Fourth Avenue), New Kensington. Anyone attending the service should go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
