Janet Pratkanis Obituary
Janet Pratkanis, of Vandergrift, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, with her loving family by her side. She was a loving daughter of the late William H. and Mary E. (Kostka) Pratkanis, of Vandergrift. Janet lived in Vandergrift all of her life and was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in East Vandergrift. She was a graduate of Kiski Area High School and Duquesne University School of Pharmacy. She worked for her brother, Richard, in his Hiland Pharmacy in Kittanning. Janet was an avid reader, a Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan, and enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and listening to the radio. She loved cooking, family vacations and her precious cats. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her beloved nephew, Richard A. Pratkanis, whom she helped raise; loving grandparents, Anton and Mary Pratkanis, of Vandergrift, and Jacob and Mary Kostka, of East Vandergrift; special aunt, Lillian Kostka, of East Vandergrift; aunts, Eleanor Paulishen, of Leechburg, and Ann Thompson, of Stockbridge, Ga.; and uncles, John Kost, of Parker, and Tony Pratkanis, of Portsmouth, Va. Janet is survived by her sister and best friend, Patricia Pratkanis, with whom she made her home; loving brother, Richard W. (Juanita) Pratkanis, of Kittanning; loving nephews, Joseph (Mary) Pratkanis, of Harrison City, Jonathan (Casey) Pratkanis, of Valencia, and Michael Pratkanis, of Pittsburgh; and nieces, Lisa (Tom) Murray, of Dade City, Fla., Christine (Edgar) Jimenes, of Blawnox, and Maribeth (Robert) Blake, of Kittanning. Janet is also survived by 10 great-nieces and nephews; a dear aunt, Irene (Paul) Toman, of New Kensington; and cousins, David (Donna) Toman, of New Kensington, Paul (Susanne) Toman, of Apollo, Anthony (Marlene) Pratkanis, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Cassandra Brown, of Stockbridge, Ga.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 20, 2016, in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, East Vandergrift, with Father Michael Sciberras as celebrant. Interment followed in St. Gertrude Catholic Cemetery, Vandergrift, where Janet was laid to rest beside her beloved parents and nephew, Richard. All arrangements were entrusted to the BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 429 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift.
