JANICE McILROY Obituary
Janice R. Mc Ilroy May 3, 33-Nov. 21, 15 Jan has joined her favorite running partner, Jewel. She was born in Salem, OR, attended Oregon State University and joined the US Army Physical Therapy program after graduation. During her seven years of active duty she met her husband, William Mc Ilroy, MD, and they were married in the Madigan Chapel 1960. Her son Andrew Mc Ilroy and grandson Peter Riches Mc Ilroy also survive her. Janice was the ultimate volunteer and worked at the Pt. Defiance Aquarium, NW Trek and had a long tenure at Tacoma-Pierce Co. Humane Society. She was the initial KIRO TV Pet of The Week presenter for seven years. She and a friend laid the starting groundwork to allow the Humane Society to become a 'no kill' facility, and she was Co-Chair for the financial drive to build the new facility. Later she became a Master Birder and was co-organizer of the Blue Bird recovery project at Mc Chord AFB. At an age where most slow down, Jan took up running and ran 6 marathons. She loved to travel, to meet people and view wildlife. This included 12 years motor homing and at least 2 international birding trips per year and many winter trips across the southern US. Another passion was sporty cars owning a Carmen Ghia, Austin Healy, Mustang, Camaro, 924, Miata, two SLKs and a Minnie Cooper. Janice will be missed, but will continue with high reverence in our memories. Please honor her request to support your local humane society, Nature Conservancy or Best Friends at Kanab, UT.
