ANDREWS – Curtis, 83, Johnstown, died Sept. 8, 2007, at Laurel Crest Rehabilitation and Special Care Center. Born July 1, 1924, in Johnstown, the son of the late Bishop C. and Nettie Lee (Davis) Andrews. He is also preceded in death by his wife, the former Viona Mae Allen, on Jan. 12, 2007; sons, Curtis Jr. and Daniel Andrews; brothers, James and Robert Andrews, Herbert Hoover and Willie Moses; stepmother, Mrs. Essie (Adams) Andrews; and daughter-in-law, Margaret Ann (Evans) Andrews. Survived by children, Gary Andrews, Detroit, Mich.; Ernest Andrews, and his friend, Tina Gordon, Pittsburgh; Barbara, married to Gregory Hilton, Johnstown; Darlene Winston, and her friend, Carl Stephens, Johnstown; Leonard Andrews, Johnstown; David Andrews, and his friend, Gloria Pierce, Chicago, Ill.; Kathy, married to Donald Sye, Harrisburg; Alcinda Andrews, Johnstown; and Neal Andrews, and his friend, Carmen Corley, Johnstown; daughter-in-law, Sheila (Lewis) Andrews, Florida; 25 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by these brothers and sisters, Bishop C. Andrews Jr.; Inez Jackson; Roscoe Andrews, married to Helen; and Lawrence Andrews, all of Detroit, Mich.; Dorothy Richardson, California; and Mattie Smith and Nathaniel Andrews, both of Johnstown; stepsister, Delores Adams, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Curtis was a 1942 graduate of Johnstown High School. A U.S. Army veteran and a retired foreman from Bethlehem Steel Corp., with over 40 years of service. He was a 1937 World Marble champion of Johnstown, an avid golfer, being a member of Pleasant Valley Golf Course. He was also a member of First Cambria AME Zion Church, where he belonged to the Men’s Zion Chorus and the Sanctuary Choir and was a trustee and where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Dr. Lamar Lee officiating. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., Downtown, 514 Somerset Street. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
