Alvera Siemsglusz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 26, 2010.
Alvera Siemsglusz was called from this life to her eternal home and rest on Monday morning, July 26, 2010. She spent her last week at St. Joseph’s in Bryan, Texas, receiving loving and tender care and the visits of her family, her doctors and the nursing staff. Alvera was born July 9, 1914 in Pilger, Nebraska. Her parents were Jess and Ethel Oppenheimer. She lived her first twenty years in Nebraska, teaching school for several years upon graduating from high school. Alvera married Alvin Siemsglusz on June 16, 1934. They moved to California shortly after that, where she spent her next 62 years. She was quite active in her church life there, both at Grace Lutheran Church in El Centro and at Christ Lutheran Church in La Mesa, California. She worked for ten years at a youth facility for San Diego County. She also enjoyed volunteer work for Pink Ladies and Hospice here in Brenham for a number of years. Alvera was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 1977, her brother Virgil, who died on the destroyer Callahan in the Pacific in 1945, two sisters; one grandson, Scott; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Parker, and by one daughter-in-law, Laverne Siemsglusz. Alvera is survived by three sons, Jon and Kathleen of Brenham; Jim and Pat of Flagstaff, Arizona; Alan and good friend, Myrna Perry of Brenham; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. A time for family visitation is scheduled for Tuesday evening, July 27 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Wednesday morning, July 28, at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Wiedeville, with Pastor Jim Abbott officiating. A committal service will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in San Diego, California. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main. (979) 836-4564. To view the obituary online, visit www.memorialoakschapel.com.
