Avis Luetgers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 6, 2016.
Obituary Avis Astrid Adelaide Hanson Anderson Luetgers was born November 2, 1926 in Holmes City, MN as a first generation American. She was the 6th of 7 children born to Albert and Hilda (Oberg) Hanson. Avis grew up on the Mill Lake family farm and lived in the Holmes City area until 1990 when she moved to Alexandria where she spent the remaining 18 of her 82 years. Avis graduated from Alexandria High School in 1944. After graduation she worked as a telephone operator. She was responsible for managing the home farm which also included tending a large garden, raising chickens and selling cream. She rented her Mill Lake cabin and boats during the summer. She was an Avon Representative, worked at the Kensington Municipal Store and was a frequent cook at the VFW Club for a variety of functions. Avis was a very social person who enjoyed participating in a variety of activities. These included bowling, dancing, bridge, playing games, and gardening. She always had a big garden and enjoyed canning and freezing her own produce. Her flowers were gorgeous. She always had the coffee pot on and ready for a game of cards, work on a picture puzzle or visiting with the many family and friends that stopped by almost daily. She loved to cook. A favorite was frying fresh fish (which she also loved to eat). Her famous homemade bread and sugar cookies were often on hand and you never left hungry after spending time with Avis. Avis was united in marriage to George Luetgers on Feb 8, 1964. Together they have 6 children. Wayne (Vi) Luetgers of Maple Lake, MN; Greg (Diane) Hanson of Dayton, OH; Sharon (Darrell) Klimek of Alexandria, MN; Romelle Anderson with special friend James Hohn of Farwell, MN and Jay (Kalee) Luetgers of Holmes City, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband George Luetgers, son Roger Luetgers, infant sister, brother Orville Hanson, sisters Melba (Harold) Berg, Harriett (Phillip) Berg and Elna Carlson. She is survived by her brother Sandy (Shirla) Hanson, brother in-law Roger Carlson, 5 children, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Avis leaves behind many friends and family who will miss her presence in our lives and many fond memories that will live in our hearts forever. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at First Lutheran Church with the Reverend John Peshek officiating. Virginia Hegre was the organist, Joyce Buntje was the soloist and Carolyn Bachman gave a eulogy. Casket Bearers were Mark Hanson, Jeff Hanson, Gary Hanson, Jami Hanson, Mike Doherty, and Mark Skidmore. Honorary Casket Bearers were all of Avis?s grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery near Holmes City, MN. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
