Barry Sinkular Obituary

Published by Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home on Jan. 1, 2017.
Barry Lynn Sinkular was born on December 21, 1949, in Gregory, SD, to Woodrow and Elsie (Schmidt) Sinkular, joining twin brothers Ken and Kent. He graduated from Gregory High School in 1968 and from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1973 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Barry married Carol Dykeman in 1985 and they later divorced. He married Jeannette Adams on August 3, 1991. Barry was a lifelong farmer and rancher until his retirement in March 2010. When he wasn't farming or ranching, Barry loved to fish, golf and play cards, which made his transition into retirement an easy and enjoyable one. His favorite summer pastime was walking in the mornings in Gregory with Clarence Ehnes and Perry Powell and then heading to the course for a round of "geezer golf" and then back to the course on Wednesday afternoons for league play. He also made uncountable trips with brothers-in-law and friends to the Missouri River for walleye fishing and fished the local bass dams if the walleye weren't biting. When the weather didn't cooperate for fishing or golfing you could find him socializing and playing cards at the Dallas Mini-Mart. He also spent many hours playing Hearts and FreeCell on the computer. Barry liked to watch football and baseball (Minnesota Twins mostly) on television but his all-time favorite TV show was "All In The Family"--Archie Bunker made him laugh out loud. Barry also enjoyed watching Gregory High School Football and attended regularly. Barry liked to travel and he and Jeannette enjoyed vacations to Mexico, Florida, Arizona, Washington State, Oregon and Canada. He, along with relatives and friends, took several fishing trips to Alaska, also. Barry passed away suddenly on January 1, 2017, in Vermillion, SD, at the age of 67 years. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette, of Dallas; Nieces Carleen (Randy) Baumgartner of Reliance and Stephanie Sinkular of Winner; Nephews Clint Sinkular of Gregory and Jeff (Mandy) Sinkular and their children Kaelee and Jacob of Dallas; Mother-in-law, Leila Adams of Gregory; In-laws Gail Sinkular of Platte; Rodger (Kate) Adams and their children Stephen, Michael, Mary Elizabeth of Papillion, NE; Mike (Barb) Adams of Vermillion; Bruce (Glenda Joy) Adams of Sioux Falls and his daughter April (Jerrett) Jennings and their children Morgan, Olivia, Harper of Sioux Falls; and by many cousins and friends. Barry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ken, his brother Kent and sister-in-law Deloris Sinkular, his father-in-law Ken Adams, and his sister-in-law Glenda Jean Adams. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Funeral services for Barry Sinkular, 67, of Dallas, SD, were held Friday, January 6, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Gregory, SD with Pastor Royal Archer and Pastor Clay Lundberg officiating. A prayer service was held Thursday evening at the church. Music was provided by Bette Fogel, pianist, and Clay Lundberg, soloist, singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace My Chains Are Gone." Congregational hymn was "Hymn of Promise." Recorded music was "Hallelujah" by Pentatonix. Carleen Baumgartner, Stephanie Sinkular, April Jennings, and Mary Elizabeth Adams were in charge of registration. Flower attendants were Amanda Green, Shawn Miner, and Carol Davis. Casket Bearers were Jerrett Jennings, Stephan Adams, Michael Adams, Randy Baumgartner, Jeff Sinkular, and Christopher Sinkular. Honorary Casket Bearers were Gregg & Pat Lundberg, Steve & Karli McCance, Bill Sinkular, Barry's golfing friends, Dallas Mini Mart friends, and fishing friends. Interment was in the Hillview Cemetery, Dallas, SD.

Jeanette,
George and I were surprised to hear of Barry's passing. The Sinkular twins graduated a year ahead of me and Barry and my sister, Sandy, graduated a year after me.

We both enjoyed watching the DVD that you all made about Barry. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Jeanette, we are so sorry. The suddenness of being with out Barry makes it so much harder. All the memories of unreaslized plans are crushing. Mom-Bess Madsen- and I are planning to be there for the funeral. If we get there early enough Thursday we would love to be at the prayer service. May you feel Jesus holding your hand through this entire process. He loves you so much and and is feeling every bit of grief and concerns that you are having. You are never alone. I'll always remember Barry's jolly, happy wide smile. We love you.

Jeannette:
We are so sorry for your loss of Barry. I remember the few times golfing with the "geezers" after I retired and before we moved to Columbus. Also I graduated with Ken and Kent, I spent several nights and weekends with them on the farm. I remember hunting, fishing, and jeep driving and Barry being involved in many of them. They were great friends. I hope the Lord will give Barry a place at one of his favorite fishing holes. May the Lord bless you and give you many fond memories.. - Mike & Bevs
