Benedetta (Cusano) Vicenzo, 100, of Atria Greenridge Place, Rocky Hill, beloved wife of the late Michele Vicenzo, died peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2014, at Middlesex Health Care in Middletown. She was born on December 5, 1913, in Sepino, Campobasso, Italy, daughter of the late Luigi and Marianna(Cusano)Cusano. Benedetta grew up in Italy, was married at age 19 and immigrated the U.S. at age 22. She lived in Bronx, NY and Windsor, CT for many years, before moving to South Windsor. She was a past member of the St. Cristina Society in East Hartford. Benedetta will be remembered by family and friends as a fabulous cook who made everything homemade for her family, a hard worker and loving and devoted, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She also enjoyed crocheting. She leaves her sons, Nicholas J. Vicenzo and his wife Assunta of South Windsor and Carmine "Anthony" Vicenzo of Middletown; four brothers, Mario Cusano and his wife Lauretta, Gennaro Cusano and his wife Michelina and Michele Cusano and his wife, Assunta all of Calgary Alberta Canada and Vittorio Cusano and his wife Tommasina of Revelstoke B.C. Canada; two granddaughters, Betty Ann Plourde and her husband Kenneth of South Windsor and Corinne Vicenzo and her fiancé, Roger Hartford of Cromwell; four great- grandchildren, Rachel, Samantha, Nicholas and Carla Plourde and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Mariangelo and Giuseppe Cusano and sisters, Angelina Lisella and Giovanna Cusano. Family and friends may gather on Friday, June 20, 2014, 9 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church, South Windsor. Entombment will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, June 19, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
